Advantages of Joint Ventures – Why Teaming Is Better Than Flying Solo

Joint Ventures. What exactly are joint ventures? Well, according to Wikipedia, “A joint venture (often abbreviated JV) is an entity formed between two or more parties to undertake economic activity together.” Or simply put, teaming up and leveraging each other’s talents rather than flying solo and doing all of the work yourself.

Makes perfect sense doesn’t it? But yet so many people today in the internet based marketing world do not take advantage of this incredible opportunity. Why? My guess is a lot of people don’t realize that these opportunities exist or they simply don’t know how to find other people who are looking for what they are trying to accomplish. Maybe you just don’t know what it is you want to do yet or maybe you have a great idea but need expertise in areas you are not so familiar with for your venture.

Or, maybe you are a lot like me, a baby boomer with years of business experience, years of building a team for my network marketing business, but new to this internet based marketing thing and not sure where to even begin.  You have a great business model, but really need some help filling in the gaps.

Most of us are used to pulling the load on our own without help from others.  But today, there is no reason you can’t have a successful on-line business utilizing all of the incredible opportunities there are to leverage other’s talents and share in the outcome. It’s pretty much a win-win for everyone involved.

Some advantages of Joint Ventures:

  • Joint Ventures leverage off of the work and results that someone else has done.
  • A Well Executed Joint Venture allows you to piggy back off of the effort of an existing lead flow/customer base
  • Joint Ventures are simply another form of lead generation

Let me give you a real life example of a joint venture I recently was involved with and didn’t even realize it until it was all over. My daughter is graduating from high school. If you have ever been through a high schooler graduating and lived to tell about it you might be following along right now. If not, please bear with me.

I made it through the SAT’s, the college visits, the prayers that she would make it through her senior year without some boyfriend, friend or other high school “crisis” getting in the way. Well it all happened and it is getting down to the final day. But wait, one more thing left. The graduation party. As if shelling out thousands for college, caps and gowns, school fees, whatever else they could throw at me wasn’t enough, I now needed to think about a party, which in today’s standards is comparable to a wedding from my era!

Then one night, something happened. One of my friends called me and asked if I wanted to do a “joint” graduation party with 3 girls instead of one. What’s that? I asked the same thing. Well, since all of the girls have the same friends, my friend thought it would make more sense to rent one big room, invite all of the friends the same night, and add our own lists to the invites. This way we could share in the costs of the room, the caterer, the invites and whatever other miscellaneous items that came along. The biggest attendees were the kids so the costs of the party would be defrayed by the fact that so many of the attendees would be “joint” friends.

This is when something truly unique started to happen. We began teaming.  We all started working on things for the party based on our strengths. We didn’t even think about it, really. We met once or twice and decided to do the things that were tailored to our strengths. One woman is extremely artistic; so she did the invites, the decorations, etc. The other has lots of connections with caterers, and supplies so she went to work on getting us the best prices. I handled the financial aspect, keeping track of the money flow and making sure we kept within our budget.  And you know what, our party is scheduled in a few weeks and I’m actually “stress-free” about it.  Really.

The interesting dynamic here is we actually were jv’ing and didn’t even realize it. If I would have been flying solo on this project, I still would be stressing over most of it; but as it turned out, it has been a win-win for everyone involved. Our daughters are thrilled to have it together with all of their friends; we are thrilled because we saved a ton of money and everyone’s contributions were tailored to their strengths so we have the best of each element for the party.

The whole point of my story is to help you see the power of joint ventures. In the internet based marketing world, the power of joint ventures cannot be underestimated. Teaming with other people who have strengths in different areas can only lead to success for your business venture.

So how do you start a joint venture?

  • Get on people’s lists.  Start networking with people who offer a service or product that compliments your business.
  • Get a better understanding of other people’s offers by following them.
  • Determine what you would look for in a partner.
  • Lead with service and value when approaching a potential partner.
  • Start small and work your way up.

The key to a successful joint venture is to make sure you team up with the right people who have the same goal. Work as a team, get input from all involved and feed off of each other’s strengths.  Don’t try to be perfect or have it all mapped out in the beginning.  It will come into focus as you move along.

You can continue flying solo but why would you?  As Ann Sieg points out in her video from Renegade Breakthrough, Joint Ventures are the fastest way to get into the big leagues.

McKay Earl’s 30 Day Marketer – Internet Marketing Training for Beginners

McKay Earl has sort of been under the radar when it comes to internet marketing training.  He doesn’t necessarily play with the big boys, Ann Sieg and Mike Klingler but he trained under Ann and is very well received by both. 

Why?  Because McKay Earl and his courses fill a gap that some internet marketing trainings leave behind.  The Renegade Professional courses are a must have for anyone who is seriously pursuing taking their business on-line and going to the next level.  There is no substitute for the degree of detail and expertise inside of Professional and nothing compares to the value offered.

I am a strong believer in education and taking your business on-line can seem like an insurmountable task to some.  I know because I have been there. 

But plugging into the right trainings, learning how to do it in steps and not being swayed by every “promise to make you rich quick” ad you see is the key to doing this right and being successful.

I like McKay’s style and both of his courses, the 30 day marketer and the 90 day marketer, are very well done and packed full of information that anyone can follow – even someone who gets overwhelmed by it all pretty quickly.   The 90 day marketer includes the 30 day marketer for free so it all depends on your budget and time. 

The 90 day requires more investment and time, but again, it offers more in the way of training and will continue to solidify the building blocks as you progress.  Currently the 90 day is not available until May 1 as it too is undergoing an upgrade but you can purchase it for $124.00 until it launches when the price will go up.

McKay’s internet training courses are a great starting point for those who might be feeling a little “out of touch” and know nothing at all about attraction marketing.

Twitter is loaded with really cool tools and gadets and this is one I hadn’t heard of before.  It is called Twitter Grader

Working From Home Part Time – How to Build Your Home Based Business on a Limited Time Budget

We’ve all been inundated with ways to build your business on a shoe string budget.  How to build with limited income, how to build for free, building your home based business with little to no up front cash.  I’ve written several articles on this subject myself and I’ve been able to implement the suggestions I’ve recommended.

They all work and they are great ideas but what if you not only have limited cash, but limited time?  I know, we all have limited time, right?  But a lot of the people I network with and interact with on a daily basis have built incredible home based businesses with great success…..BUT, they are doing it full time. 

Now I am not taking anything away from them and their success so please don’t get me wrong here  They worked long, hard hours to be where they are today and they deserve every bit of that success.  But how did they do it when they first started out?  They had to have been doing it part time until they reached the level of success they wanted to achieve, right?  More likely than not, a majority of them started their business part-time and many of them are still doing it part-time until they reach their goals.

So, how do you achieve the level of success you are after when you have such limited time?   Well, let me first start off by joining your group.  I am a “part-timer” or, what I prefer to call myself “weekend warrior”.  That is when most of my energy is expended in my home based business and when I seem to do my best work. 

I have been able to achieve a good level of success and a very good part-time income building my home based business part-time.  My goal, of course, is to do this full time and I am definitely on track to get there.  So what do I do to juggle my family, day job and home based business? 

First of all, you really have to sit down and write out your goals.  No kidding, this isn’t bull – I mean it.  You have to know what level of success you want to achieve before you can get there.  I’m not talking old school methods here.  It doesn’t matter what business you are in – affiliate marketing, internet marketing, network marketing – if you don’t take 20 minutes to write down your goals and where you want to be by what date – how on earth are you going to get there?    I don’t want you to “post them on a dream board” but I do believe it is important to write them down and keep them where you can easily access them to see if you are on track.

For me, at least, when I write something down it seems to be more tangible.  If I keep it in my head then more likely than not, I’ll forget it or change it or modify it without realizing I’ve done any of that.  Once you have that done, then you can start working on how to fit everything in to your tight part-time schedule.

Next you need to decide how many hours a week you are going to spend building and working on your home based business.  10, 20, 30?  It doesn’t matter but whatever your commitment level, make sure you stick to it.  If you choose 10 then carve out 10 hours week to work – and block it out in segments.

For instance, decide what time of day you are at your best and block out that time every day to work on the meatier parts of your home business.  For me, I do my best thinking in the morning – that is when I usually post to my blog and write articles.  Since article writing and blog posts are a very big part of what I do, I usually reserve this time for the mornings – weekend mornings are when I do most of my writing.  What do I do on the days I work away from home? 

I get up one hour earlier and work on “busy stuff”.  Answer e-mails, browse through articles others have written, maybe listen to a tutorial or training call.   This is too early to do calls to prospects so I usually reserve that time for the evenings and weekend afternoons - if I have too many calls to squeeze into that time frame, I may give up a morning on the weekend to schedule calls for the entire day.   You need to be flexible with yourself but remain diligent. 

My evenings are reserved for mostly calls, trainings or conference calls.  I also do a lot of reading in the evenings to relax myself and unwind.   I read books, articles, blog posts – mostly related to my business. 

It is very easy to just not do anything because you become overwhelmed or burned out.  If you feel this happening, then walk away – walk away for a week or a few days – take a break.  Then come back and you will be amazed at how much better you feel.  I know because I’ve been there and I’ve done it.  I come back refreshed, renewed and ready to get going again.

I was able to learn an entirely new way of marketing my business using attraction marketing techniques in a few months part time.  It is possible and now I am getting a very nice steady part-time income from my efforts and a growing list of prospects for my business. 

So it really is possible to build a home based business part-time.  I’m living proof and there are thousands more just like me doing the same thing.

How To Brand Yourself – Take Your Business On-Line and Brand You – Not Your MLM

Do you have a replicated website from your MLM? If you are like thousands of others, of course you do. Your upline shows you all of the bells and whistles that come with your great new website and how you can just drive traffic there and people will buy.

Chances are the website is the company’s domain name with your name or some nickname you have chosen at the end.  So now you feel like you have your own website and things are starting to roll in your MLM.

Actually, it couldn’t be further from the truth. If you really want to be successful in today’s environment and move into the 21st century with your MLM, then one thing stands above all of the rest for success…..branding.  Not the branding made with a hot iron to designate which animal belongs to whom. I am talking about branding yourself.

You’ve heard of Domino’s Pizza haven’t you? Well, you wouldn’t know who they were or should I say, they wouldn’t standout from the rest if they just followed the pack. Domino’s learned a long time ago what most of the marketing world already knows and Network Marketing is just beginning to realize.  In order to stand out from all of the other competition out there you have to be sure people know who you are and what you have to offer that is different from all of the rest. 

There are thousands of pizza places to choose from but what does Domino’s offer that the others don’t?  They promise fresh, hot pizza delivered within 30 minutes or it’s free.  Now wrap your arms around that one for a while.  Imagine a college dorm filled with students cramming for a final.  They are hungry – but more than hungry they want something cheap.  Do they care where the pizza comes from?  Heck, no.  But the chances that they might get it for free is very enticing to them.  31 minutes and they have a free meal.  JACKPOT!  You see, Domino’s is playing on their market’s wants and needs.  They know that people can order pizza from dozens of different chains or restaurants but what can they offer that will brand them as someone different?  They already have.  When you think Domino’s you think 30 minutes or less.  That is what branding is really all about.

It took me a while to realize it because I was definitely one of those naive souls who believed that sending people to a company replicated website and telling them to look around would be enough to take my business to the next level.

Boy, was I ever wrong.

You see, company replicated websites do brand someone but that someone is not you, it is the company. It is their logo, their graphics, their writing, their name. Who are you to the individual looking for something on that page? Nothing more than a name (which they may quickly forget) who sent them there hoping for a sale.

In order to stand out from the crowd you need to be someone unique. Set yourself apart from the rest. How? By creating value driven material on the internet to offer your customers, clients, prospects, anyone that might stumble upon you on the internet.   If branding is done correctly, your can builid an MLM Empire while building You, Inc. at the same time.

If you sell skin care and you feel you have a good knowledge of it, then why should you let your MLM take that credit from you? You are the consultant, you are the one who actually sells the product to the consumer.  So what can you do?

Create a blog.  Much like the one here. Start by creating one or two articles about skin care, then continue to add content as you learn more or research more. Add some videos, create other articles on other sites such as Hub Pages or Squidoo. Link to all of your different articles through various methods; an e-mail autoresponder or blog post to name a few.

Network on-line and build a relationship with others through social networking sites. 

BetterNetworker is fantastic networking site for building on-line relationships and a good place to start if you are thinking of building on-line.  Get your name out there on the internet and start branding yourself as an expert in your field.

Are you starting to get the picture? I know it was a little insane for me when I first ventured into this new way of thinking. You have to readjust your brain in a sense and carve out a new path for yourself. But believe me, it is so worth it. Gone are the days when just forcing things down people’s throats produced results. We live in a different society and a different world.  You have to adjust with the changes and attraction marketing is the change that is revolutionizing Network Marketing.

Attraction Marketing has changed my business and my outlook. No longer do I feel I only belong to my MLM.  I am a business builder in my own right and I am building my business on-line utilizing the principles of attraction marketing and absolutely loving every minute of it. I am more diversified than ever before and no longer rely on one source of income for my future. I am starting to build a trickle of income from multiple sources so that if something would ever happen in my MLM, I would still be in business for myself.

You see, once you have branded yourself, you own your own list. Your MLM doesn’t own it – you do. You own your own content, your expertise and your followers. People who come to you because they see the value you are offering them.  So the possibilites are endless.

Let me give you an example of how this all works.  Going back to my skin care example. You have a great acne product that you truly believe in but you have struggled for months, (maybe years) trying to get enough people to even notice this product. So you start by writing some articles on a blog (we’ll use a blog as an example but there are many other avenues on-line besides blogs).

You don’t pitch your product – what you want to do is develop a relationship with your audience. Start building trust and position yourself as an expert in the field of skincare (particularly problematic skin). This is the beginning of branding. Now the people reading your articles are pretty interested in what you have to say and want more.

They contact you through your blog and ask for more information. What do you do? Don’t pitch them with your product – that is the old fashioned way of jamming your product into their face. Instead, be a solutions provider. Send them to a free video link that shows them how using products with certain ingredients can clear up their skin. Or you could connect them with some informative material about problematic skin. Something like the Top 10 Myths of problematic skin. Now you are building a relationship with them and they realize you are trying to provide a solution, rather than trying to get. Give, give give and you will get. This is all branding. Does it take time? Absolutely, but statistics show that 80% of sales take place on the the 5th to 12th contact.

Eventually, you want to get your product in their hands but only after they have built a strong relationship with you. Think about that for a moment. If you have a customer like that they more than likely will be a customer for life and will tell others about you and your products. Can you make sales the old way? Sure, but chances are they won’t be coming back for more because you didn’t really offer anything above and beyond what anyone else does.  Once you have branded yourself on-line people will look to you for leadership and advice.

Believe me, the consumer and the prospects today are very savvy.  If you don’t give them something special in the way of YOU, they will move on to someone who does.

Branding yourself today is so essential for success. It really works and it is not that difficult.  In fact, it is quite easy if you educate yourself.

Whatever avenue you choose, know that today’s world is much different than the world of MLM’s 20 years ago. Attraction Marketing works. The methods make sense. You just have to reprogram yourself to take a new path.

90 Day Marketer – McKay Earl Simplifys Ann Sieg’s E-Book

Have you read the Renegade Network Marketer by Ann Sieg? 

More than likely if you have been a student of Attraction Marketing or just delving into the possibilities, Ann Sieg is one name you have heard bantered around for the past year or so.  Why?  Ann Sieg is a pioneer in the world of attraction marketing.

Her e-books, The Renegade Network Marketer and The 7 Great Lies of Network Marketing were cutting edge, tell alls about the failures of Network Marketing.

If you are even thinking about venturing into the world of attraction marketing, affiliate marketing or both, you need to be educated.

Ann’s e-book, The Renegade Network Marketer is your start - it is the core of your business that you will use to refer back to time and time again.    It will give you the basics that you need to get started.  Her e-book will help you understand the principles of Attraction Marketing and why so many Network Marketers have failed utilizing methods that are out-dated and out of touch.

Earl McKay’s 90 Day Marketer is your next step.  Piggy backing on the valuable information in Ann’s e-book he makes it come “alive” with real life examples, resources, tutorials, etc.  It is duplicatible so you can introduce this to anyone on your team with a comfort that newbies will not be overwhelmed.  If they can follow instructions, they can follow the 90 Day Marketer.

I am a dedicated student of  Mike Klingler and Renegade University.  The University is an incredible tool for building an attraction marketing base on-line utilizing step by step tutorials unlike any I’ve seen in the industry.  However, for the very beginning newbie, sometimes all of the information in Mike’s University can be a little overwhelming.  I have found that some people just don’t know where to start.  For these people, there needs to be a solution and I believe McKay Earl’s 90 Day Marketer is that solution.

Once students prove that they are committed and go through the lesson plan layed out by McKay Earl, then they can be moved into the University.  By that time, they have a good solid undertstanding and some core elements built.  They are now ready to take their business to the next level.  That is where Mike Klingler comes in and the power of the University.

Well, this is a problem for many people in our industry – not just “attractive marketers” but anyone who is building a list using the internet or other methods. What to say, how to say it, what type of value to offer so you don’t “scare” away your prospect.

If you have been one of the lucky ones to have prospects call you first by using attraction marketing techniques, then you know how thrilling it can be to see the fruits of your labor coming to life. How to continue the ‘attraction’ principles on the phone.

Here’s the key…

  • You want to know beforehand (before the prospect calls or before you make that call) what value you’re going to offer to them. If this sounds familiar you’re right!
  • The basis of what you do on the phone is exactly the same as how you got them there–you give value first, which establishes the needed trust to make a sale & attract them into your business.
  • By knowing what value you offer first, you will have the confidence and clarity you need to lead. You will possess a leadership quality that you might not even know you have (yet).
  • Your prospect will want more of you, instead of less of you.
  • You’ll be appreciated because you’re giving something, rather than just going through a script or list of questions to ‘get something.’
  • You’ll feel better about what you do, or more importantly, the way you’re doing it. So will your prospect.
  • It all leads to a lot more sales and a lot more fun… ultimately, it leads to MORE success in any business you’re involved with. If you’re in the networking industry it leads to a lot more duplication for obvious reasons
